Origins:
The Coconut is an abundantly renewable natural resource in its native environment of Sri Lanka and its fibres boast of an extremely low decomposition rate together with proportionately higher strength characteristics and durability compared to other natural fibre products.
Our Coconut manufacturing partner’s factories are situated within close proximity to over 200 coconut fibre mills in what is commonly referred to as The Coconut Triangle in Sri Lanka, providing us with very advantageous access to the best raw materials in the country.
The product is shipped in large sealed containers to Felixstowe where it is collected and transported to one of two depots we deploy to East and West of the County of Suffolk.
From here we are able to facilitate distribution and/ or collection to most UK Mainland destinations.
The Product:
The Coconut Fibre Pith is regarded by many in the fields of Agriculture and Horticulture as The World’s Most Advanced, Naturally Organic Growing Medium and it provides an unprecedented range of bio-diverse products, a key one being as an alternative growing medium to sphagnum moss peat for simple or more complex composts and as a soil conditioner/improver.
Enviro Coir is our own environmentally friendly horticultural growing medium and soil improver alternative to sphagnum moss peat. It contains 100% natural substances and beneficial microbes - no chemical compounds have been added. Enviro Coir has an unusually high water absorption capacity which helps to conserve the earth’s precious water supplies. Enviro Coir is also produced from a 100% organic renewable resource that is completely bio-degradable with no hazardous disposal problems.
Our compressed Enviro Coir is derived from the more widely used term Coir dust or Coconut Pith which are key by-products of the Horticultural Coir Fibre industry, the disposal of which originally posed Sri Lanka with quite a problem. The product is harvested as ‘’fall out’’ material as the actual fibres are shredded and extracted from the Coconut Husk itself. The material represents about 70% of the original weight of the husk and is made up of millions of brown coloured micro sponge-like capillaries that absorb and hold up to 8-9 times their own weight of water and supports a high nutrient absorption capacity. It is rich in lignin and tannin and it also has lingo-cellulosic bonds, which are known to be resistant to microbiological attack and higher resistance to early decay.
We produce and sell both the Red Coir (newest and freshest product) and Black Coir (an older and aged coir with a low EC Level and ideal for seed raising, hydroponic growing, potting mix, landscape planting and mushroom casing.)
There is a high demand for our compressed coconut coir in the market, particularly for its exceptional properties as a moisture retaining agent in potting mixtures for horticultural and agricultural applications. It is an excellent growing medium and a long lasting soil ameliorant. A highly complex and extremely advanced growing medium capable of having a serious impact on helping to save some of the world’s precious water resources while decreasing the use of chemical nutrients.
Coconut Coir is a 100% natural and renewable resource whose unique characteristics of high quality and superior alternative to sphagnum moss peat without any known ecological drawbacks on its use. It cleverly increases the porosity of dense soil concentration and facilitates root penetration.
Enviro Coir, in our opinion, is probably one of the safest alternative natural growing mediums on the market today offering high yield response at a cost effective price.
The Benefits & Advantages:
- A uniformly processed product with no waste in its application.
- It has a neutral to slightly acidic Ph level of between <5.8-6.5> compared to Sphagnum Peat Moss which is less than <5.0> making it perfect for the alkaline garden.
- Vey clean, Light and easy to use.
- Environmentally friendly.
- Excellent value for money.
- Contains no known harmful pathogens and is quality tested.
- High moisture/air retention capacity whilst maintaining porosity affording plant protection from drying-out during a hot Summer or from water-logging during the Winter.
- Has a 70% lignin content preventing premature decay.
- It is a 100% natural substance with beneficial microbes and is harvested from a very sustainable source.
- It requires less frequent watering, helping to conserve the earth’s precious water resources .
- It enables easy growth with early development of a strong root system and it has a superior cationic exchange capacity
- Due to its immense capacity for water absorption, Enviro Coir STSI has been widely used as a horticultural soil improver & conditioner - to serve as a moisture equaliser and improve the quality of many types of soils.

STSI-Specialist Tree & Shrub Soil Improver:
Our technically advanced peat-free substrate alternative to sphagnum moss peat. Its own unique structure enables it to absorb moisture at a rate of 8-9 times its own dry packed weight, thus dispensing with the need to include wetting agents into the product itself. It has been specifically produced by ENVIRO MULCH for the Tree and Shrub planting industry.
ECONOMICAL & ECO-FRIENDLY:
STSI is a naturally grown product from a highly sustainable source and because it is grown above ground there are no issues with bacterial infection. Similarly, STSI contains no harmful pathogens.
STSI is our own special blend of new and aged 100% Coconut Coir fibre medium, processed through ½” mesh and compressed at 2.5:1 into printed heavy gauge LDPE bales. Using the product in this form allows for its immediate use in situ, instead of the need to apply additional breaking up and hydration of a higher compressed content.
15kgs Bales (when packed) offering up to 175 litres of expanded product when hydrated with water. Bale size: (45cm x 32 cm x 52 cm approx)

Unlike other Tree/Shrub Planting composts, which are very heavy in weight and are produced to effectively replace the existing growing medium surrounding the Tree/Shrub, STSI is designed to be used as a valuable support product to the planting operation and should be mixed with the native backfill substrate at a rate of 40:60 (40% STSI) per planting hole*, where it will help to not only condition & improve the current soil structure & properties, but it will assist with faster development of essential root growth. The natural and organic properties of STSI enable it to work extremely well with mycorrhiza, a friendly funghi that are present in all woodland soils and are typically added in the planting process as their presence greatly helps to increase nutrient uptake and enhancement of the root systems.
*variable subject to prevailing soil conditions
- STSI may also be used as a general soil conditioner and improver.
- In the construction of golfing greens, public planting of parks & gardens.
- As a Growing medium in the mushroom industry
- In Hydro-seeding mixes.
